"The Silk Road Adventures of Dharma The Cat"

KING ASOKA'S OUTCOME:

King Asoka never does win the hand of the fair Princess.  But he did marry and have a son and daughter, both of whom took the Buddhist vows and became Asoka’s missionaries of peace.

But more importantly, by personally embracing Buddhism while also protecting all the other religions in his kingdom, Asoka creates a pioneering culture of tolerance, in which the brotherhood of monks (sangha) flourishes throughout India.

King Asoka’s example of tolerance toward all religions set the tone for the future, as Buddhism to this day has spread from country to country without any political or military aggression.

The conqueror begets enmity; the defeated lie down in distress.  The peaceful rest in happiness,  giving up both victory and defeat.
